How a customised wooden box transported a robot

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an American not-for-profit public charity.

It designs innovative programs to motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in Science and Technology.

Robotics Competition

The FIRST ® Robotics Competition is designed for High school-aged teams to compete head to head on a special playing field with robots they have designed, built, and programmed. Robots score points by stacking rubbish “totes”, (½m³ recycling bins). Teams on an Alliance work together to place as many totes on scoring platforms as possible.

Sydney’s Marsden High School has been competing in this international event since 2014, with encouraging competition successes. They prepared a robot for the 2016 Hawaii Regional Robotics Competition, against teams from USA, Taiwan, China and Japan.

On time and intact

Transporting their robot safely and on-time to Hawaii was a high priority for the school and Silverwater Box (now merged with UBEECO Packaging Solutions) stepped in and donated a purpose-built wooden box to support the school’s Robotics program. We designed the packaging on-site with great interest shown by the Marsden High students in the program.

The Marsden team were extremely happy with the timber packaging that was specially precision-made for the sensitive freighting of the robot to Hawaii …
