Making a purchase with the environment in mind is a common requirement for purchasing departments. Whether you’ve been tasked with looking to reduce your company’s carbon footprint or have genuine interest in protecting the environment it’s a hot topic of discussion.
UBEECO™ has been producing Timber Packaging Products in Australia for over 40 years. In this time we have unknowingly been producing one of the most environmentally friendly manufactured products.
Perception in the industry and media would have you believe that it’s all doom and gloom to use timber packaging.
Recent research by the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Accounting compared the amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated by the manufacture of timber products with the amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated by the manufacture of common alternatives.
The research showed that more than 25 tonnes of greenhouse gases could be saved if timber products were used instead of the common alternatives. While the graph uses examples of home building products, it illustrates the benefits of timber
The graph clearly shows that the manufacture of timber building components uses considerably less energy than the manufacture of other major products such concrete, brick, ceramic tiles, aluminium and steel. It therefore follows that when you use timber and timber products over the common alternatives, you will leave a smaller carbon footprint.
Timber production also makes a positive contribution to reducing carbon emissions by being part of the short term carbon cycle that involves trees absorbing carbon dioxide from the air, releasing oxygen and storing the carbon in the wood.
Something else to consider with Timber Packaging is the fact that it can be REUSED REPAIRED AND RECYCLED! Most Timber Manufacturers including us, offer a repair service to keep re-using the materials. You’ll also find a number of creative people converting these industrial items into furniture and amazing works of art.
And when it’s all said and done, and the product can be used no more, it goes back into the land as mulch for the landscaping industry. UBEECO a number of massive hoppers for chipping our waste as well as our customers waste. Seriously, who can argue with the environmental benefits of wood, even planet ark say; “Wood, Naturally Better”.
